Prior to working in financing I spent five years in customer service industries, which is largely why I've taken a very client-centric approach to helping people with their mortgage arrangements. You wouldn't think it, but working at a call centre and taking calls from rage-filled customers who got one less taco shell in their kit than advertised has come in handy for navigating mortgage financing between all the different parties involved. The job isn't just about getting the best rate for a client, it's also about finding a way to explain the process without leaving you confused, and it's about making sure that there is fair communication throughout the days/weeks/months we spend working together.
